Cuatro Rayas Viñedos Centenarios chosen as the best Rueda wine in Mundus Vini

Cuatro Rayas Cuarenta Vendimias Verdejo wine got a silver medal at the prestigious competition held in Germany

La Seca (Valladolid), 07 September 2017: The international competition Mundus Vini, held during the last weeks, chose the Verdejo varietal Cuatro Rayas Viñedos Centenarios 2016 as ‘Best of Show Rueda’. This award adds up to the recognitions received by this wine since it was released seven years ago on the 75th anniversary of the winery.  Likewise, Cuatro Rayas Cuarenta Vendimias adds a silver to the list of triumphs. In this edition of the Grand International Wine Award Mundus Vini, a jury of 164 experts, who travelled there from 41 countries, blind tasted and rated nearly 4,300 wines from 42 of the world’s growing areas during the four days of the competition.

Cuatro Rayas Viñedos Centenarios is a wine produced from our oldest vineyards –around 100 years old (the youngest are around 80) and some of them pre-phylloxera vines—, and using the most traditional harvesting and winemaking methods, that provide the balance and elegance of the Verdejo variety. Also, another of the gems of D.O. Rueda, Cuatro Rayas Cuarenta Vendimias, produced with grapes from more than 40-year-old gobelet-trained vines, is a piece of history of the mastery of the winemaker Ángel Calleja in the Designation of Origin Rueda.

About Mundus Vini
It was founded in 2001 in Germany, and the target of the competition is to promote quality and the marketing of the wines entered. Likewise, the awards are intended to offer producers, winegrowers, importers and consumers a forum, which, firstly, permits a comparison of the different wines and offers a valuable help with decision-making and orientation when buying wine and, secondly, reaches a wide public.  While welcomed by wine customers as a helpful orientation aid, awards provide producers with recognition of their hard work.
