Eusebio Sacristán, born in La Seca and Real Valladolid legend, is the current manager of Girona FC, the first rival of the white and violet team on its return to the Top Spanish Division
Also former player of FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid and Celta de Vigo and a winner of a Champions League with Barça, Eusebio is a member of Cuatro Rayas Winery, the main sponsor of Valladolid’s team
La Seca, 14 August 2018.- After four years in the Second Division, next Friday 17 August, Real Valladolid will return to the Spanish football top flight with great excitement after a brilliant end of the last season under the guidance of Sergio González and with a historical record of members –now over 20,000. They will face Girona, last year’s surprise team trained by an old acquaintance of the Pucela fans: Eusebio Sacristán, a legend of Spanish football, proudly born in La Seca, province of Valladolid.
After beginning his career as a player in 1984 with his hometown’s Real Valladolid, the current manager became, thanks to his exquisite technique, his exceptional vision and great touch in one of the best players that have come out of the Nuevo José Zorrilla stadium. He is the third player who has played more official matches in the Spanish Football League (543 matches), he played 15 times with the Spanish national team and raised the trophy of the most prestigious club competition in Europe, the Champions League (in 1992 with FC Barcelona). Exemplary sportsman and very dear to the cities where his football career led him, Eusebio also has the affection and admiration of his hometown, La Seca, a region known for its great wine tradition and birthplace of Verdejo. Eusebio has always been closely linked to the world of wine since he and his family are members of the well-known Cuatro Rayas Winery –currently the official sponsor of the Real Valladolid.
Located in the town mentioned above —the heart of the D.O. Rueda— Cuatro Rayas produces around 20% of the total production in the Designation of Origin, and the wines of this region comprise more than 10% of wine sales in Spain. Its members –Eusebio is member No. 27– own more than 2,400 hectares of vineyard. Cuatro Rayas is a leading brand with 83 years of history that brings together the passion for grapes of 300 winegrowers. It is a cooperative winery benchmark of winemaking of D.O. Rueda white wines in Spain and it distributes to more than sixty countries. “Cuatro Rayas is the Verdejo Wine from Rueda in the World” is the slogan of the winery, making clear the presence of the brand outside our borders.
In this winery, the Sacristán Mena family owns an estate that comprises a large part of the organic Tempranillo and Verdejo production of this cooperative. Thus, the start of the “Liga Santander” of this season will unite both worlds, football and wine, in a perfect cycle that involves Real Valladolid, Cuatro Rayas winery and a distinguished personality of both entities, Eusebio Sacristán Mena.
