La Seca (Valladolid), September 2018.-
Great news for the brand-new ‘61 range’ of Cuatro Rayas Winery. ‘61 Dorado’, the oldest wine in DO Rueda, has been awarded a Gold at the 2018 Zarcillo Awards, as well as 89 points out of 100 by The Wine Advocate magazine, publication of the distinguished critic Robert Parker. Likewise, ‘61 Vermouth’, the ground-breaking 100 % Verdejo vermouth of the winery, received a new recognition, getting a Silver medal in the prestigious contest Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial.
In this 2018 edition, the Zarzillo Awards exceeded all expectations, with 2,020 entry wines in the contest –a 12% increase compared to its previous edition in 2015. A panel of 84 national and international expert wine tasters evaluated a wine range representing 25 producing countries, during four tasting sessions at the Forum Evolución of Burgos. The jury awarded ‘61 Dorado’ a Gold, that sums up to the long list of prizes of one of the most laureated brands of Cuatro Rayas Winery.
Moreover, last 31 August, the scores awarded by the famous magazine The Wine Advocate were presented. It is an informative organisation about the world of wine led by Robert Parker, probably the most influential wine critic in the world. In this magazine, several renowned experts taste, evaluate and grade more than 4,000 wines per month. In the last issue, the expert Luis Gutiérrez, the person in charge of evaluating the wines from Spain and other countries for the magazine, saw fit to grant the above-mentioned ‘Dorado 61’ a score of 89 points out of 100.
Recognitions continue for ‘61 Vermouth’
Since good things always come in threes, this year’s edition of Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial, which took place in the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv on the 21, 22 and 23 August, also recognised the excellence of Cuatro Rayas Winery. This time, ‘61 Vermouth’ achieved a Silver medal in this contest, where 78 specialised wine tasters from 26 different nationalities judged Spirits from 50 producing countries. The variety of the samples to evaluate and the profile of the juries make this unique contest an international reference in the world of spirits.
