An exclusive Cuatro Rayas that breaks the myth that Verdejo should be consumed within a year

The DO Rueda winery celebrates this year's harvest presenting Cuarenta Vendimias Cuvée, a 100% Verdejo wine with a high cellaring improvement potential, which is a result from last harvest winemaking

La Seca (Valladolid), September 2018.- A few days ago, Cuatro Rayas Winery started 2018 picking up of the grapes and, to celebrate it, presented Cuatro Rayas Cuarenta Cuarenta Vendimias Cuvée 2017, a collection white wine that puts together the most precious winegrowing heritage in DO Rueda (old vineyards located in the best areas of the designation) and the work of three generations of winemakers.   It is a wine that breaks the myth that Verdejo wine should be consumed within a year, against those who say that this grape evolves badly in the bottle. With this newly wine for ageing put on the market, the winery tries that the condition of the grape (ripeness, pH, etc.) selected from forty years old vines, as well as the ageing on lees and the short oak barrel ageing, provide the wine with the required complexity so that time can bring the best of it.   Three generations to crown ‘Cuarenta Vendimias’ family ‘Cuarenta Vendimias’ wine range, presented nearly three years ago, comprises the original Verdejo wine, is produced with a forty years old recipe left by the winemaker Ángel Calleja. While the winemaking of Ribera del Duero, barrel aged for ten months, and Sauvignon Blanc is done under the watchful eye of Elena M. Oyagüe, current technical manager of the cooperative located in La Seca. For the Cuvée, Roberto L. Tello, the youngest winemaker of the winery, has been the responsible for assuring that this wine meets the ‘Cuarenta Vendimias’ high-quality standards.   This new Cuvée is an exclusive product to the hotel and restaurant sector and the best wine bars, a limited brand that will be on the menus of the establishments where DO Rueda Verdejo wine is the reference Spanish white wine for the most demanding consumers. Thanks to its structure and acidity, we manage to bring back to the present the unique nuances of a previous harvest to the very moment this wine is poured in a glass.
