Three golds for three grape varieties of Cuatro Rayas at the Berliner Wein Trophy


The jury recognises the quality of the Verdejo and Sauvignon varieties in the Vendimia Nocturna brand of the cooperative awarding them a gold medal, the same recognition goes to the prize-winning ‘61’ Dorado en Rama, safeguard of the Palomino variety in DO Rueda.


La Seca, 5 March 2020.- The wines of Bodega Cuatro Rayas continue to collect recognitions at international competitions. Cuatro Rayas Vendimia Nocturna Verdejo and Cuatro Rayas Vendimia Nocturna Sauvignon—two of the most demanded brands of the winery located in the heart of DO Rueda—have received a gold medal at the recent edition of the wine international benchmark Berliner Wein Trophy Awards, held from 21 to 24 February in the German capital.

         The event brought together an expert jury of nearly 200 people who tasted and scored more than 6,000 wines coming from vineyards across five continents. It further highlighted the quality of ‘61’ Dorado en Rama—produced with a half and half mix of Verdejo and Palomino varieties—awarding it also a gold medal. This award adds up to the recognitions this fortified wine has received, which in the last Parker magazine edition got the outstanding score of 91 points in recognition of its exceptional quality.

The brands of Bodega Cuatro Rayas that conquer the jury of the BWT Cuatro Rayas Vendimia Nocturna Verdejo is made of grapes coming from a careful selection of states and plots located in DO Rueda. Powerful on the nose, with hints of white fruit and citrus; on the palate is balanced and has a hint of sweetness, with a delicate fennel aftertaste. For its part, Cuatro Rayas Vendimia Nocturna Sauvignon is a full-bodied varietal wine, inviting on the nose and unctuous on the palate, with hints of passion fruit and pineapple.

       The third wine of the cooperative from Valladolid awarded that received a Gold medal by the jury of the Berliner Wein Trophy—‘61’ Dorado en Rama—is made with grapes coming from century-old vineyards and it is produced according to the traditional ageing method in Sherry butts. Without a vintage, only one saca (taking out) is performed every year and is bottled without clarification or filtering. It is golden in colour, clean and bright, and shows hints of nuts and raisins among its tasting notes.
